About

Hi! My name is Taiya, and I am the owner of Bloom Baby Farm LLC located in Indianapolis, Indiana. The passion for growing just about anything led me to turn what I love to do into a business.

Our Values

At Bloom Baby Farm, we aim to farm more in step with nature. The three pillars that make up our values are organic, sustainable and regenerative.

Why Organic?

Organic means without artificial agents. What better way could I be more in step with nature than excluding artificial elements from my farm. One of my favorite organic practices we implement on the farm is releasing beneficial insects. Insecticides can cause chemical resistance that can lead to having to use a higher volume of stronger chemicals over time. Beneficial insects are beneficial because they eat insects that are destroying crops. Providing an environment that allows nature to take its course allows us to continue to grow organically.

Why Sustainable?

Sustainable means able to be upheld or maintained. Sustainability is important for us both on the farming side and the business side. Farming sustainably for us means we have simple growing practices that work WITH nature instead of going against nature allowing us to maintain the farm season after season. Being consistent in what we offer to our customers is another way we foster sustainability.

Why Regenerative?

Regeneration is the restoration or renewal after a disturbance or damage has occurred. We choose regenerative because history has shown that when we take from the earth without returning, we are causing a long-lasting destruction to Earth's health that can be difficult to undo. The destruction affects ALL living things on this earth, including us. One way we incorporate regeneration is turning the dead plant material from what we grow into compost to feed the soil and future crops. So, as we regenerate the environment on our farm and work hard to give nature a hand in producing beautiful flowers and nourishing food, we don't hope to leave our mark on the world, but we do hope to leave a mark on your heart.

Our Story

The idea of starting a farm came into fruition when I was planning my wedding flowers. After seeing the transparent posts Instagram wedding florists were making regarding pricing, I accepted that I could not afford any other option but growing my own wedding flowers. I researched incessantly on what and when to plant for my wedding. I found myself reading blogs and watching back-to-back YouTube videos, and one day I realized all the people I was getting advice from had something in common, they were all flower farmers! Who even knew that was a thing? After I had that epiphany, I did more research about flower farming and was hooked. At some point, to be honest I don’t remember when, I must have made the decision that flower farming was the life for me because my idea of starting a farm quickly started coming to life. I began getting all the aspects in order to start my small business which became official in May of 2023! The story really begins before I started growing my wedding flowers though.

A few years ago, I got this idea to have my own business where I would be caring for plants. At that time, I had a plan for starting up a nursery in my retirement years. I had begun planning in great detail the nursery that I would build. But, the opportunity to be a steward of plants came much earlier than that. It's as if my subconscious knew that I would start up a  business much sooner than later.

When I lived in a 500 sq ft. apartment, at one point I had close to 200 houseplants to care for. Sounds like a bit much, right? Well, after purchasing our first home in 2021, my fiancé and I moved out of that apartment which is where my love for growing things quickly started evolving. I had my own property and a fairly large backyard which is where the farm is currently located. What started off as a small 3x3 plot, turned into 3 raised beds in 2022, which turned into the 3 raised beds plus half of my backyard in 2023. Lots of seeds were sowed that grew into small plants but didn’t make it out of the trays. I still had so much to learn. The only successful thing I harvested in year 2022 were tomatoes from tomato plants that my fiancé’s father gave to us. By the end of 2022, I had some pretty ambitious goals which were growing my own wedding flowers and growing food…. that made it to the harvest stage.

While learning from all the mistakes I made, and there are still more to be made by the way, I was very methodical in planning my wedding flowers as to ensure my special day would be full of the prettiest blooms. By the start of 2023, I was equipped with more knowledge than ever before which led to a very successful year where I was able to harvest a lot of food and flowers. This part of the story is important because I not only want my farm to produce beautiful flowers, but I also want it to produce delicious and nourishing food! I could not imagine what life would be like without being able to grow things. And to be able to grow things that keep us living healthier and longer is amazing to me. Our wedding plans ended up getting pushed back and the date is still TBD, but it gave me the time to focus on starting up my business venture, Bloom Baby Farm. The farm became official on May 2, 2023, and I am so excited for the growth and where Bloom Baby Farm goes up from here!
